  • My work | My life | My art.

This is meant to be my journal. My personal platform. Random and for sure uncensored.
My love for photography began at a young age and pursuing it as a career became a dream. Today, I am working hard to fulfill that dream.
This blog is my very own story, documenting the struggles, the joys, the hopes and the flaws of my journey. It is also very personal at times, better be aware. :)
I‘d be happy to take you along on that journey called life.

meet this young, fresh and relaxed couple: frauke and tobias – eh, sorry, tobi. i know him for more than a decade now and never heard anyone say ‘tobias’. until their wedding day, i guess.

how do i start? they met at the pitch. the same pitch where i met his brother a few years earlier – only we didn’t end up walking down the aisle. but that’s a different story…

tobi was top scorer for the men’s team of bv werther, frauke and i were kicking for the ladies’ team. i guess, frauke laid eyes on tobi the minute she met him because she knew he was the one. she simply knew it. later, tobi became head coach of the ladies’ team and these two got to spend even more time together. and then during a winter walk in the snowy mountains, tobi popped the question.

one day, i got a message from frauke asking for my wedding packages, ‘for a friend’. yeah, right, ‘for a friend ;)’ i messaged her later when i heard of their engagement. i was out of their budget but i offered that i would shoot their wedding more or less as a gift if i didn’t get booked that day, under certain conditions though. their wedding took place only two months after pia had passed and i figured it would be the best way to get back on track. i must admit, it was hard at times because pia was supposed to be there, too, and that missing spot was hurting everyone i assume.

frauke and tobi had a laid-back wedding and one heck of a party! i had mixed feelings about who i would meet that day but it turned out to actually feel really good to meet that bunch of people from the past and present. i had a blast once i put down the camera for good and i am pretty sure frauke and tobi had their best day ever, so far ;)

claudia and matthias. you are in my heart. i love your bright and positive laughter, claudi. and matze, i instantly felt connected to you when you told me about your family, you know that.

bielefeld and its greater area is more like a village. everyone knows everyone in some way. claudi went to school with my man and i knew matze from soccer. i was in the car with my friends olli and laura when they called their friend matze to tell him he should hire me as their wedding photographer. and lucky for me, he did. not only for their civil ceremony at the beach by the baltic sea but also for their church ceremony a year later.

claudi and matze’s day was filled with roses, lots of selfmade decoration and of course love. we arranged a first look at the teutoburger wald golf club where matze usually swings the golf club. i have never been on a golf course nor have i ever driven a caddy. but how fun was riding that little speedy thing?! hilarious.

after our portrait session we headed back to steinhagen where the church ceremony was held. i wasn’t allowed to move during the ceremony so nina (who once again did a great job as my second shooter) and i had to make the best out of it.

the bride and groom were surprised by a carriage that was waiting for them at the church to take them to the reception at the ententurm in brockhagen where they celebrated their big day all night long.

this wedding. wow. i do not know where to start.

that 50s dress?

the fact that these soccer fans got married on the (by then) most important game day of the season?

the industrial touch that was added by the venue?

the sweetes note i got afterwards from the groom’s aunt?

no. i will start with them. meike and david. real high school sweethearts. they have known each other for decades. and in fact, when we first met in hamburg we realized that we have, more or less, been on vacation together. crazy.

their wedding day was filled with surprises and had such a personal touch. meike also turned 30 that day and according to german tradition her sister made her clean door handles right before the civil ceremony because she was not married yet.

both of them are, just like me, big fans of arminia bielefeld. it turned out, so was the officiant as his watch prooved. as i said, it was by then the most important game of the season, arminia was playing in the neighbouring town paderborn but meike and david had it covered. they provided an ipad with the game on at the reception and let me tell you: best decision.

anyway. after the ceremony the couple was greeted by the official team bus of arminia bielefeld. how cool is that? the bridal party left for a little tour and we got together later for portraits and the reception at hechelei.

alright, folks, i guess i said enough. and in fact i didn’t. there was so much more to this day but i am here to show off my work, right?!

what fits better to this wedding than my old flame? gotta love film, right?! taken with my rolleiflex on kodak portra, i believe. should look that up again, shame on me i do not remember.

meike and david, your day was a blast. thank you SO MUCH for letting me be part of it!
